Why You’re Going To Love This Recipe

T’s SO much to love about this party favourite baked cheese!

  • Brie or Camembert – this recipe works just as well using brie or camembert cheese! They are both deliciously gooey and creamy when baked and served with nuts and berries.
  • Perfect for Christmas – when I make this baked brie at Christmas time, I always add dried cranberries on top for an extra festive flair.
  • Versatile – I’ve used walnuts and pistachios but you can use any chopped nuts you like!
  • Feeds a crowd – this party favourite is perfect for feeding a large number of guests. Simply serve with crackers or crostini and let your guests dip in to the gooey cheesy warm deliciousness.
  • Looks fancy… but is actually SO easy – t’s no doubt that a baked brie looks impressive enough to be served at a 5 star restaurant, however, it’s incredibly easy to make. Simply top with jam, nuts and dried cranberries (optional) and bake. That’s it!

What You Need

This simple baked brie with fig jam is made using just 4 ingredients!

  • Brie cheese – choose brie or substitute for camembert. You can use any round brie or camembert cheese weighing between 200g and 400g (larger cheeses will need to be cooked for slightly longer).
  • Jam – personally, I love the flavour of brie cheese with fig fruit jam, it goes so well with the savoury and sweet flavours. However, you can use absolutely any jam you like! A few of my favourite varieties include: blackberry, boysenberry, apricot or cherry jam.
  • Nuts – I love using pistachios and chopped walnuts as they pair beautifully with fig jam. However, you can use any of your favourite nuts – such as almonds or pecans.
  • Dried cranberries – optional, but highly recommended. These give a sweet tangy flavour to the dish. Alternatively you can use other chopped dried fruits, such as apricots or figs.
  • For serving (optional) – to make this simple baked brie even fancier, you might like to add a sprig of fresh thyme, a drizzle of honey and a few fresh juicy blackberries.

Equipment Required

Choose a favourite small round dish that is oven proof and can also be the serving dish. Besides this, you only need an oven to bake this brie with jam in.

Step 3 – Bake

Place the dish into the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is gooey inside.

Tip: Use a finger to gently press the side of the cheese, if it’s very wobbly, then it’s ready!

Expert Tips

Follow my top tips for how to cook brie cheese…

  • Baking dish – I like to use a small round baking dish (just slightly bigger than the brie cheese). This way, the brie can be prepared, baked and served in the same dish. If you don’t have a round dish, you can prepare and bake the brie on a baking paper lined tray and then VERY carefully transfer it to a serving platter (be extra careful as the gooey cheese will easily start oozing out, and its hot).
  • Serve immediately – this cheese appetiser needs to be served immediately out of the oven. This is when the cheese is warm, soft and oozy – perfect for smothering on to crackers or crostini. If you leave it too long before serving, the cheese will begin to firm up.
  • Any leftovers can be reheated in the microwave for 2-3 minutes.
  • This recipe is not suitable for freezing.

FAQ’s

What type of jam goes well with brie cheese?

Brie cheese is the perfect partner to jam! It pairs beautifully with jam varieties, such as: fig, apricot, blackberry, boysenberry or cherry jam.

Can I use different nuts or dried fruit?

Absolutely! Use any of your favourite varieties – pecans, walnuts, pistachios and almonds all make great options for the nuts. Dried apricots, dried cranberries and dried figs are also delicious.

How will I know when my baked brie is ready?

The easiest way is to very gently press your finger onto the side of the brie. It should be visibly swollen, and very wobbly to the touch. Larger sized cheeses will take a little longer to bake through than smaller cheeses.

Do I have to use a full round of brie or camembert?

Yes, using a whole round brie or camembert cheese ensures that the gooey cheese stays together because of the firmer outside casing… right up until you cut it open with a knife and the cheese oozes out!
